Athlete’s Foot

Athlete’s foot is caused by a fungal infection on the skin. Symptoms include redness and itching of the skin, usually on the bottom of the foot and between the toes.

While fairly common, it can progress into a serious problem if left untreated. Skin may callus and crack, opening up the possibility for a bacterial infection.

Individuals with diabetes and other health conditions that compromise their immune system are more likely to develop this type of infection.

Keeping the inside of your shoes dry and clean is vital to preventing athlete’s foot. Keep your feet dry and clean, too.

How Footwear Can Help

Many socks have wicking fibers that can help keep your feet dry.

Shoes made of “breathable” material will also reduce your likelihood of developing athlete’s foot.

Footwear made of materials that “breathe” will reduce moisture around your feet.

All Dr. Comfort footwear is designed with breathable materials, whilst our socks are created from nano-bamboo charcoal fibres, which reduce odour and keep the feet dry and fresh.

How Else Can You Treat Athlete's Foot?

If your feet do get wet, dry them as soon as possible. Use powder on your feet and inside your shoes to absorb excess moisture.

Sunlight and ultraviolet will destroy the fungus that causes althete’s foot. There are also over-the-counter lotions available. If you have trouble getting rid of your symptoms, see a podiatrist.
